Quick Start Guide for Apps: Desktop

Communicator allows you to place and receive business calls over the cellular network using your business phone number. This article provides details on placing voice and video calls.

A. System Requirements

  • Operating system
    • Apple Mac OS 10.8 Mountain Lion, Mac OS 10.9 Mavericks, Mac OS 10.10 Yosemite.
    • Microsoft Windows 7, Windows 8/8.1, Windows 10 (Classical view only).
  • The installation footprint is approximately 125 MB.
  • For voice calls, a sound card, speakers, and a microphone or a headset are required.
  • A minimum 1GB MB RAM is required.
  • Minimum 1 GHz; however, 1.5 GHz is recommended.
  • Intel Pentium 4 at a minimum, dual core CPU at a minimum is recommended for video calls.
  • Open Graphics Library (OpenGL) 1.5 or higher is recommended.

For high-definition (HD) video, the following is recommended:

  • HD camera
  • HD resolution support in display
  • Pentium Quad Core or equivalent
  • 2 GB RAM

B. Installation of Desktop App

You will receive an email indicating you were given access to the Desktop App.

Please Note: Only an administrator can give a user access to the Desktop App through the user assignment feature. You can find out additional information on how to provide access to the Desktop App by following the guide on User Assignments.

  1. Log in to the User Portal dashboard.
  2. Click the My Apps tab.
  3. Click Download next to the Desktop Application.

Windows

  • Click Run or Save and follow the instructions.
  • Launch BDV UC-One Communicator Desktop Softphone.

MAC

  • Double-click the disk image.
  • Copy the application to the Applications folder.
  • Launch BDV UC-One Communicator Desktop Softphone.

Sign In

The first time you launch the Desktop App you are prompted to select a region before you sign in. If you are updating the app, the Region selection should already be in the system.

  1. Enter the username and password for the Desktop Softphone.
    • Username example: Username@businessdigital.verizon.com (sylviapublic@businessdigital.verizon.com)
    • Password example: User Portal password
  2. Check Save Login if you do not want to enter it every time you log in.
  3. Click Sign In.

Main Window

The contact list will be empty when you launch the BDV UC-One Communicator Desktop Softphone for the first time. Use the search field to find people and add them to your contact list. Contacts can also be added by clicking the + (add) button.

This table displays a quick overview of the icons displayed within the app:

Contacts – View your contacts. Use to filter and add contacts.

Chat – Allows you to view recent chat communications with contacts.

Call History – View messages and access voice mail.

Dialer – Open a dial pad to place a call.

Settings – Offers incoming and outgoing settings.
