911 Emergency Routing Service

Effective January 6, 2022, RAY BAUM’S Act emphasizes the importance of making dispatchable location information from 911 calls available to public safety answering points (PSAPs), so that first responders can be quickly dispatched to the caller’s location.

First, it’s important to determine what type of lines you have, so that you can determine what action is needed. Do you have a Fixed or Nomadic lines, or do you have both?

Fixed Lines

If your employees use their phone or desktop client only at the primary, registered location address, no action is required. Verizon will send that address on file to the PSAP when 911 is dialed from a fixed line at your primary registered address. Here is an article to help you set up your emergency call notifications:

Nomadic Lines

If your employees sometimes use their desk phone or desktop client at a location other than their primary, registered address, they are considered to have nomadic lines. Verizon now offers RedSky’s enhanced 911 solution to help organizations with nomadic lines comply with these new FCC rules. When using the BDV desktop client, RedSky supports dynamic address verification and automatically detects when a user has moved locations so that if they dial 9-1-1, the new location is used as the dispatchable location.

You should contact Verizon Sales representative, to order RedSky. Once ordered, refer to this guide for steps on how to complete your E911 configuration.

Note: Prior to implementation of RedSky, you will need to download and install the latest desktop client (version 22.9.30 or later). To download the latest desktop client, go here.

Need to change your employees’ softphone access?

With these new rules, we recognize that some companies may be evaluating how and when their employees are using their BDV Desktop (and mobile) clients. If you’d like to remove access to a client from a user, it’s simple! Follow these steps in the admin portal:

  1. Log in to the admin portal.
  2. Select the Users tab in the left-hand navigation menu.
  3. Select the Actions drop-down menu and then select Edit next to the user you would like to assign these features to.
  4. The Edit User window appears. From here, select Mobile & PC Applications.
  5. Uncheck the boxes of the applications you would like to unassigned the user.
